The equipment that they use in the CSI shows does that really exist and do we use it in this country.

Apparently they can not show gagetson this show which are not available to the police forces of America .So all you see in the Bil is used in Britain I would asume

So there is really a 3D imaging machine that can scan an exhumed corpse, perfectly mapping it's interior and displaying it as a room sized holographic image (as seen in a recent CSI:NY)?

Those machine should be available and most likely are .If not then the whole point of the show is lost .It becomes science fiction .I do not speak for the CSI programme makers so lets have some one from that show on to explain the situation .

Come on! You don't think that if room sized holograms were available, it would be public knowledge? Think of the (much more profitable) entertainment uses.

What about the way that they can take ropey CCTV footage and zoom in on name tags, reading them perfectly? No amount of image extrapolation can do that. How about the beautifully designed software with lovely GUIs that can carry out a database search in seconds while providing pretty pictures? Not to mention the fact that they never wear the correct clothing when at a crime scene - 1/2 the trace they collect would be their own hair and DNA!

Many of the techniques are real - such as "supergluing" to reveal fingerprints, and some of the tech has some basis in real life - the "table" computer in 'Miami' seems like an advanced version of Microsoft's "Surface" - but a lot of what they do is at best "glammed up" and at worst, science fiction.

Next you'll be telling me that a CSI could be extradited to face murder charges in another country and return to work the next day with no questions asked! (Horation in 'Miami').

I don't watch it, but from what I've seen of 'Waking the Dead', it's a much more realistic depiction of what CSIs do. (Not as entertaining, though!)
