In the media the Victoria fires are cited as being a "natural disaster."
But since they say arsonists lit most of the fires, wouldn't it be a crime & not a natural disaster?

although possibly started by arsonists perhaps what they mean is that becasue of the dameage to nature and vegetation and natural habitat it's a disaster....thus a disaster to the natural area ...thus a "natural disaster" ?
they don't know about 'most of', they're just suspicions. They've only arrested one suspect.
A lot of the fires have occured naturally, there are many still raging in New South Wales as well. I phoned my Aunt last weekend and although she cannot see the fires she can smell them.

Unfortunately arsonists come out to play when the natural fires are raging. It happens all over the world. I was in Portugal a few years ago when the natural fires were raging (I found it horrific) and many more were started by arsonists at that time. I suppose they think they will get away with it!.
