i was watching t3 at the weekend and it says on its timeline that:

arnie is t-101 series 800 in terminator 1

arnie is t-101 series 800 in terminator 2

arnie is t-101 series 850 in terminator 3

but what is the difference between the 101 bit and the series bit? also does it mean that arnie is the EXACT same machine in t1 and t2?

The 101 bit refers to the model (the bits that make the robot look like arnie). The 800 is the series - arnie is the same in T1 and T2, he just gets reprogrammed. He is more advanced in T3, being an 850. The baddie in T2 was a t-1000 series and in T3 was a t-x series.

Consider Terminator is a car for a minute. The t-101 is the equivelent of say a Ford. the series 800 is say Mondeo. So therefore there can be thousands of t-101 series 800 as they are an infiltration unit designed to go into the human compounds and eliminate any survivors. So although all Ford Mondeo's look the same, they are individual!

If i were you I'd not be worried about that and wonder instead how John Conner goes from being born in 1985 to being between 10 & 13 in t2 (Set in 1991)!

Oh and I'd completely disregard T3!
