Does anybody know the whereabouts of the new background picture on this programme. It used to be of Portsmouth Spinnaker Tower, but since the change round in the local tv areas there is now a picture (from a web-cam presumably) of a bridge across a river
Thanks for that Octavius, I suppose I should have known that, one of my sons used to live in Maidstone.
Every night when I watch that programme I wonder where is that, thought perhaps it was Reading or Oxford.
Where we are it used to be Portsmouth, but the programme has now a wider reception area I believe.
To confuse matters even more.
Meridian (until Feb 9th) had 3 newsrooms/studios,broadcasting local news.
They were
Oxford
Southampton (Whiteley)
Maidstone.
We (being near Rye/Hastings) got our news from the Maidstone studio.
Meridian in it's wisdom (and to save money) now only has one local news studio in Whiteley.
This is why our local guy Ian (who used to work with Sangeeta) has gone, and she now presents with (the dreary) Fred Dineage.
I think they have chosen the Maidstone Bridge as it's a bit anonymous and fits all areas.
You may notice that for your area(and ours) that instead of 30 minutes of local news,we now get 3 ten minute slots to cover the whole Meridian areas.
I now watch BBC local news from Tunbridge Wells,at least that IS truly local.
We live in Guildford, Surrey and have no real local news. Mostly ITV is from London, but we watch Meridian Tonight because from Whiteley (as it used to come from) seemed to cover almost to our area.
BBC extends from London down to north of here and barely covers any local news.
We realised that ITV had made these cuts and now the "local news" seems to come from all over the South East of England - hardly local.
Thanks for all your information, now I know it is Maidstone Bridge I am looking at behind Fred Dineage, also that the co-presenter is Sangeeta.
I fear that "local" is no more.
Personally I think that Fred and Sangeeta are a better comedy duo than most of our comedians. I really enjoy Meridian Tonight, my only wish is, that it was on for longer. So wonderful to see presenters who are compassionate about the issues they are reporting on (as opposed to the "smarmy pair") on the other side. Well done Fred and Sangeeta, and all the team at Meridian Tonight............ Keep up the good work. Sue, Hoo St Werburgh
