No Place Like Home - Martin Clunes - other actor

Hi, Martin Clunes on JR tonight prompted a discussion, starting with in his early days he came in as a replacement for an actor who died during the series. The series was a sitcom with a bloke out of the champions etc etc. We got the man from the champions (William Gaunt) and the show "No place like home" but can't think of the actors name, or even if we are right, It could have been a totally different show. I seem to remember the young actor dying in a car crash on the coast road in the Costa del sol, but only because I remember having crossed that road and think I thought this at the time of the news about the actor. Can anyone help out with this? Many thanks

The actor who died was Stephen Crabtree, who was on his honeymoon in Spain.
He played Paul Crabtree, Clunes played Nigel Crabtree.

The actor who died was Stephen Watson, not Crabtree.

Thanks Barry1010, I think we have been confused about that, I don't think anyone replaced Stephen Watson. though for some reason in the cast list Martin Clunes is listed as Nigel Crabtree #1 there must have been another. Probably why we got mixed up. Trivia eh? its amazing what stimulates the mind sometimes.

IMDb gives him as Nigel number 1 and Andrew Charleson, who is still alive, as Nigel number 2 in `No Place Like Home'.

Martin Clunes was in No Place at Home since the first episode, as you say, and was in it until the end of series 3.

Andrew Charleson took over the role for series 4.

If you look at Clunes career history the only other tv role he had before No Place was in Dr Who, and he didn't take over a role in that.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0167340/

Thank you, we now think that when Martin Clunes appeared in Men behaving Badly we might have thought he was the bloke who was taken over by... (now we know Andrew Charleson) But also maybe the mix up is added to as didn't Men Behaving badly start with someone else?

Hi Carrot, not to good at the moment, little J has had his Leg broken by baby T's bike. He had to have an operation to put the bone back in place, it even came through his skin.

But he's being a little trooper, as kids are.
