Spooks. What happened to Tom?

I ciaght up with Spooks lastnight. In the preamble there was emntion of the 'Tom problem', and a new character is the hero.

 

What happened to Tom? Did the actor who was playing him get tired of the part?

Not sure what the actor is up to, but the character had a sudden attack of conscience and tried freeing an agent MI5 were running.  He was relieved of duties.  Personally, I think he has swapped to MI6 and will be back when the new hero returns to MI6.

Matthew MacFadyen (spelling?), the actor, probably left to "pursue other projects" i.e. be unemployed.

The actor is about to become a dad....he and Keely (hope the spelling's right) the actress who plays Zoe, are expecting their first baby together soon.  She leaves this series too.

Tom had to leave MI5 after becoming disillusioned with the job they do and how it affects peopeels lives.  He broke several rules and tried to persuade a sleeper to run for it, rather than carry out a job.

Think hunky Adam is a good replacement.

Apparently, Tom may be returning later in the series - dunno if that's true though.  Another useless fact: they filmed several endings to the saga when he was on the run as they didn't know if he'd be part of series 3.  Turns out he compromised

Somehow its not quite as good without him in it though....hands up who thinks Adam's a baddie in disguise?!

I think Adam is great too! Did you know he is the son of Angela Thorne who played Penelope Keith's friend in To the Manor Born and he was in North Square series about Barristers but they only did one series.

I agree with on eor two others. They had to work a very hard episode to get him back in the series after the previous cliff hanger ending and it seems strange if they are losing the character all together, I think he is working undercover to get rid of the guy behind the guy who is trying to politicize MI5 and MI6.
