What was the name of the actress who played a private investigator in a tv series on bbc or itv in 1994ish? She had a double barrelled surname and was once featured in the tv/radio times about this time saying her father was high up in the army or something.

Could you mean DS Penhaligon in Cracker played by Geraldine Somerville? Her real name is Geraldine Agnew-Somerville but she's dropped the double barrelled bit.

According to Wiki, her father is Sir Quentin Charles Agnew-Somerville, 2nd Baronet who was a sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy before he became a financial expert.

I know its not double barrelled but I wonder if you mean Imogen Stubbs who played private investigator Anna Lee for the bbc. the series was rather short lived.
Her father was a naval officer and they lived in Portsmouth.
