Years ago, you could set your watch by the time a television programme started --- especially the BBC.
Why do we now have programmes starting minutes before, or minutes after the listed time ?
Have the television companies fallen into line with todays values, ie --- it'll do ?

Apparently the ONE Show is used as a catch up or round down programme. It rarely starts at 7pm but always brings the schedules back into line after it finishes.

Yes, I have noticed that about the 'One Show', it is annoying to switch over at 7.00pm and find it has already started.
None of the soaps start / finish on time. Another annoying thing is the ad break that`s put on 10 mins before the end of a drama.
It's the trailers that annoy me. By the time you get to watch a programme you have seen half of it already on different trailers.

Interesting comments, especially Paul.
But years ago there was no requirement for a " catch up " type programme.
The ONE show was one of main reasons for my gripe, although Casualty on Saturday was 3 to 4 minutes later than listed.
Maybe I'm just getting grumpy & picky as the years roll on.
Worst thing is the nights that Corrie/Eastenders are both on, you turn over and find you have missed the start of one of them, even though its still not the scheduled time.
I record the soaps lankeela & set the timers 2/ 3 mins earlier & later than the "proper" times.
