old film

years ago i saw a film on tv that i can't remeber the name of, anyone help?

it was an old black and white hollywood (?) film about two brothers, a good kind one and a bad nasty one. i think they inherited a garage business from their father and rowed about what to do with it/how to run it. (there may have been a girl they both loved involved too)  the film ended with them fighting next to a railway line when one of them (don't think we knew which one) fell onto the tracks and the film ended with the front of the train racing towards the screen.

bit vague i'm afraid and i may be wrong on some points but does anyone have any ideas of a title?
