Does anyone know if Ewan McGregor had a tiny cameo role in The Beach. I watched it last night and could've sworn it was him. It's the scene where everyone is asking Leonardo DiCaprio for supplies when he goes to the mainland?

Thanks

I didn't notice him, but as a side view - I'd never seen The Beach before and thought it was a load of cack.  I really cannot see what the attraction is.

Ewan may have been in it though the only thing that makes me think that is the fact that Robert Carlysle was in it, and Ewan was in Trainspotting with him.  Random I know.

If you google "Ewan McGregor The Beach" you will find loads of info that Ewan was due to play the main part which was then given to Leo DiCrapio.

i also think that the beach was crap !

when you stop to think about it there is absolutely no point made or entertainment to be had !

OK you say its 'crap' like people who say Donnie Darko is 'crap' just because its different and they don't understand it. The Beach is a different film that explores people's interactions and humans in an unknown environment. An interesting anthropological piece of film? Or crap because it's too different from anything else? Just my opinion and not saying yours is wrong, interesting how different things appeal eh?

the book 'the beach' is amazing and kept me gripped - it really explores the characters - the film WAS crap, I agree mattK, but not cos of it being a crap story, in the adaptation process it just became a film about a load of stoners in thailand or wherever they were (not seen it for ages).  Read the book - much much better.  And it gets my goat that they take a brilliant book and get an american to play an english lead - WHY??!! Bridget Jones too - grrrr!

Actually Monkeygirl I thought The Beach was crap and I did understand it.  I love Donnie Darko, and I understand that too.

Lord of the Flies is the book that The Beach is supposedly based on, it's a fantastice book and beats The Beach hands down.  That's why I thought the film was crud because it did the book no justice at all.

And have to agree with pagey3, why why why why why get Leo DiCrapio to play a role that Ewan McGregor would have played fantastically?

'Actually'(!) Natalie - I wasn't having a go, like I said in my post "just my opinion and not saying yours is wrong"... which you didn't read, just like my question when you answered it with nonsense... Thanks ever so much for your feedback. Great. No really. Great.
I think whoever was responsible for that absolutely horrific computer animated shark should be taken into the hills and shot at dawn. There were more realistic looking animals in Toy Story.

As I was just saying that I understood these films unlike 'some people'.

Well it was a closer answer than anyone else came up with, and I thought maybe it might have interested you.

Really.  I did.  Yes, really.  I did.  Really, really.  Yes, really, really really.  Honestly.  really.  Truly.  Really.....

Ha. Funny. No. Really...

What's with the psuedo-American High School catfight?

I wasn't impressed with The Beach. The ending was a complete anti-climax. Apart from the fact that the lead should have been British, I think Leonardo di Caprio was a good choice. He's a seriously underappreciated actor. Since Titanic he's been tarred with the 'pin-up' brush but look at his performances in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Basketball Diaries & Catch Me if You Can.

I'm not saying he's one of the greatest actors of all time but he doesn't often get the credit he deserves.

Boredom :)
Like. Yeah. Totally.
