can anyone remember this series?

BBC2 used to show a series over the festive period in the mornings which was all about the old west and the struggle with the native americans. old letters from soldiers and contemporary accounts featured heavily.

Sounds like Ken Burns' series "The West". If so, (or even if not!) also highly recommended were his "The Civil War" and "Jazz".

I remember the series, though can't remember the title.

undurn may be right when he says above, that it was called The West.

If it was the one Kris kristofferson narrated the series was called Adventures Of The Old West and covered the pewriod from the 49ers in the gold rush through the settlers and indian wars to the civil war and beyond, I think there are 4 dvds. i still have the shows on video cassette that i inherited from my dad's collection after he died.
