Yes I like it poodicat. British Eurosport have extensive coverage of it and of course it's also on BBC2. A lot of Qualifying Heats on at present.

Good one bibblebub !
Its the only time I watch any sport! Once every 4 years is fine with me!
Tizzi24 - every 4 years? You must be missing every other one because the WInter Olympics are every 2 years.
Can't say that I was looking forward to it but still sat up till 3.30 am watching the speed skating!
I'm wrong, could have sworn that they were switched to every 2 years

The Winter Games 2 year thing ...

Until 1994, the Winter Games were always in the same year as the Summer Games.

In 1986, the International Olympic Committee decided that the Summer and Winter Games should be staggered ... ie to take place in alternate second years.

In 1992, there was a Winter Olympics in Albertville.

The next Winter Games were 2 years later, in Lillehammer (the Games at which Torvill and Dean were notoriously robbed of the Gold).

From 1994, the Winter Games have continued to be held every 4 years, but the Summer and Winter Games are now always 2 years apart.

thanks jj, so my inital thoughts about 2 years are based on memories that are from the early 1990s - blimey the years since have flown past
bibs ... I had an idea where you were coming from with the 2 years.

I remember the Lillehammer Games ... watching Torvill and Dean perform an amazing, heartstopping routine ...

... and then watching in disbelief as the judges' scores came up.

I was too naive back then to realise that the Olympic judges from some nations were no better than Eurovision Song Contest juries when it came to political scoring.
