I think that was part of the appeal. The ridiculous notion of Stan and Jack as sex symbols. Stans impossible domestic situation leading to many a thwarted romantic liasion. The casual sexism, Blakey the by-the-book manager, often drawn into Hitleresque comparisions by his staff. It has all the ingredients of a truly classical 70s sit-com.
I'd love to think thats what suburban early 70s was like and would love to be transported back to those days to enjoy a pint of mild down the working mens club and see if I can pull some 'clippies'.
