I recently watched the Return of the Jedi after not having seen the film for years. At the very end when Luke sees the "ghosts" in the forest of Obi Wan, Yoda and his father it looked as if the character of his father was actually Haydn Christianson and not the actor who played Darth Vader in the scene where Luke unmasks him as he lays dying. Am I right and if so does anyone know why they didn't digitally remaster the "unmasking" scene to match??
On the new dvd versions Christianson replaced Shaw for the ghost scene. I suppose it is to make it more obvious who the third ghost is to new viwers more familiar with the new movies.
As Donaldson said, in the new DVDs Annakin's ghost is played by Christiansen. As Darth wasn't supposed to be recognisably Annakin by the unmasking scene, it wasn't really necessary to change it. (Plus it was probably too difficult/expensive). Mind you, now you've given George an idea for another "improvement".
It was the digitally remastered version that came out at the cinema about 6 years ago which had the original actor. On the New DVDs it is Haydn Christianson.
i thought that the ghost representation were when they were at their happiest hence anakin being his younger self rather than his sick and twisted older self !
