I imagine it's a case of the BBC hedging their bets. They took a risk updating such a well known character, it could've gone horribly wrong.
I certainly enjoyed it & hope there will be more coming soon...
They would have made the programme months ago and would have had no idea if the programme is going to be well received. I imagine that it is quite costly to make in comparison to other programming (reality programmes and quiz shows etc.). As the BBC work for us they probably didn't want to spend too much on something that they don't know will work. Hopefully they will now commission another series based on how this has been received. Come on BBC you can do it!!
It was only three episodes - the two shown have been excellent. Also, they're feature length
However, it was on the same time as the final Top Gear last week, so many will not have tuned in to watch part of the drama. BBC shot themselves in the foot there - quite a bit of teh audience share would have been viewers who watch Top Gear too.
It's brilliant and should be on again and i hope they keep to the 90 minute format cos it is proper TV. he was in love actually and not in notting hill
I wonder whether some people think the BBC can make an episode of something like this from start to finish inside a couple of weeks, and that funding and resources are limitless. Not even the BBC can throw millions into something that may fail. They've done that a few times too many.
We should also remember that whilst many people love the show, myself included, there are those who don't like it but who still pay their licence fees. They are surely entitled to a share of the programming.
