Freddy Starr as one of his acts used to dress up in a tuxedo and wear a bald wig which was bald on top and long from the sides and back and then used to walk like an ape , he was making fun of a two comedians of the same description (maybe in the act they were bouncers?) Does anyone know what those comedians were called?

I've probably got it wrong but your description sounds like the old comedian Max Wall
Question Author
Thanks carmalee, close they looked exactly like Max Wall same hair, tux bow tie and funny walk so it looks like these comedians were copying max.
Question Author
Come to think of it carmalee I now think that you may just have hit the nail on the head and it actually may have been Max Wall and Freddie Starr impersonating him both together on stage if my failing memory serves me well.
see you have the same probs as me with memory sometimes - it's not old age it's just that I have so much wisdom and knowledge it gets cluttered at times.
Question Author
That's a great way to put it carmalee.
All part of the service M52 (sorry, that makes you sound like a motorway)

haha, that's a great abreviation!
didn't billy dainty used to 'do' max wall too?
I remember mixing up max with goerge carl when i was little. ♥
Both Billy Dainty and Freddie Star used Max Walls 'material'. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Max Wall named his character Professor Wallofski...

Although I remember freddie starr doing an impression of Max Wall, it was his impression of Mick Jagger that sprang to mind when I read the bit about the ape.

Didn't he eat somebody's hamster? Starr not Wall, that is.
You may be confusing the Brothers Lee also doing the Max Wall impersonation.

Beckyboo who are the brothers lee?
They were a trio who all did the same impressions (circa late 70's). They did all the standards Frank Spencer, Bruce Forsythe, Tommy Cooper etc. I'm not sure, they may have won Opportunity Knocks/New Faces and used to appear on the Generation game at least once a series
Michael the brothers Lee were a comedy/vocal group. took off all sorts of singers,Mick Jagger, Shirley bassey etc (showing my age here) havent looked but they are probably on you-tube, they were very good
Question Author
