Sweep the beach

The guy on the television in Home and away is going to sweep the beach .How would that be done?

I think he means sweep as in just a look along beach, like when there has been a murder and people sweep fields looking for clues

That might mean gathering up any seaweed or other stuff that has been washed up. It is a daily event at most holiday resorts with beaches.

On holiday Rimini in Italy the beaches were swept every morning very early, I used to watch them from my hotel window. They used huge rake-like broom things.
There was not a fag end, sweet wrapper nothin when you went down in the morning. beautiful and clean.

In Miami, they use a machine with big brush rollers

I swept the beach once with a bass broom & some clever sod from the council came & made me put all the sand back.
