how quick did they introduce and then solve the bloody thing with the butler? what a waste of a script, feeble, and such a contrast to the whole effort in getting the detail and historical accuracy, it's got to improve. The gem moments are few and far between so far

I'm with Dotty, it is sumptuous, the Yanks (it's real market) will lap it up.
It's certainly not a patch on 'The Forsyte Saga' now that was quality.

Don't care, Maggie Smith makes it for me. Her facial expressions alone in the final scene spoke volumes, without any need for dialogue.

Still can't understand how Rob James-Collier looks so much younger than he did when playing Liam in Corrie.

bit annoying how all these period dramas are always set around 1910 so they have more props motor cars etc and no doubt the approaching great war then the 1920s, would be better set 40 years earlier at peak o findustrial revolution but then the could not have had maggie smith gliding around in her edwardian costume that she practically spends her whole life in!

Glossing over the fact that 40 years earlier was well past the peak of the Industrial Revolution, I am sure that the gorgeous Dame Maggie could sport a Victorian, Georgian or any other historical costume with equal aplomb.

i would have liked to have seen this drama set 50 years earlier 1860 the height of the over the top costumes and furnishings, so many of these dramas are set very early victorian .ie jane austin or edwardian period as downton abbey!

enjoying a bit, but a little too much 21st century thinking with some characters! not enough noblesse oblige! too much caring about below stairs! and they wouldn't have taken any cheek!
