I've always had a very active imagination and i dream in amazing detail-recently ive been thinking about my career and really fancy working in film, maybe directing, writing something where i can put my skills and imagination to use. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions about where i should go from here if anywhere? thanks

You could write a script and create your own independant production.  Lot's of directors (Like Kevin Smith and Sam Raimi) have started that way.

Other than that you could study filmmaking or get a job as a runner and work your way into the industry.  You wouldn't be able to "get a job" as a director but who you know is important.

Andrew's spot on. And try this:

how old are you?
You will have go on a course(s) and learn about your chosen field - these things are never as simple as they may seem. You will also have to do a fair bit of unpaid work or work as a runner/assistant. No -one will employ you unless you can show them that you know the business and your job well. you can then build up your CV and get some references and perhaps enter some scriptwriting competitions etc, if only for the feedback. You may be able to get an amateur crew to work for free, while you direct, but you will still need to finance it yourself - check out the web for sites, there are plenty full of advice, there is no quick way in, alas, so good luck :o)
