Re. The Rotters Club which was on BBC2 recently. I'd missed a bit of the last episode.  Was it assumed that the girl who Hugo Speer's character was having an affair with, was murdered?  She had witnessed a worker at the factory she worked at being beaten up and then she mysteriously disappeared.

Yeah, I'd kind of assumed she'd been murdered by that ginger git of a shop steward, the one who clocked them together at the hotel (and who was doing the beating she witnessed).  Good wee drama, really enjoyed it.  Shame about the wishy washy ending tho.

The disappearance of Miriam was left as a complete mystery (as it was in the book.) There are certain characters in the book which the reader follows (including the Hugo Speer character) and generally doesn't get to find out anything they don't know. As none of these people know what happened to Miriam the reader / viewer doesn't know either.

Johnathan Coe wrote a sequel to the Rotter's Club, called the Closed Circle, in which Claire (Miriam's Sister) is still trying to solve the mystery of her sister's disappearance. I haven't finished the book yet so don't know if it is ever fully solved.

Has anyone read the book?... etc. Recommend it? Like most TV adaptations of novels set in the 70s, teh research eas p*** poor to a stickler like me: Greg lake's "I Believe  ..." on the radio at Chtristmas '74, punk apparently kicking off in Birmingham in early '75.
