Indeed. Another atrocity is Yes' cover of Simon and Garfunkel's 'America'. Yes remain one of my all-time favourite bands, but this was just dreadful.

However, the worst cover of all time, IMO, was The Byrds' version of Bob Dylan's 'Mr Tambourine Man'. I realise that it has assumed classic status these days, but they COMPLETELY missed the point. They took a brilliant song of unmatched lyrical beauty, and what did they do with it? They played the chorus, the second verse and the chorus again, and completely drowned it in plinky-plonky 12-string guitars. I just can't listen to it...

I couldn't agree more. Same goes for The Beatles...

I really don't know what they were thinking! Like I said, I'm a huge prog rock fan and Yes are one of my all-time favourite bands, but this song benefited not one jot from being "progged up"...
I saw them live a few year ago, think there were a few parents rethinking having taken young children along :)

Prog rock: Yes, Van der Graaf Generator, Genesis until about 1980, King Crimson, ELP etc...

This is my all-time favourite song, and the one to which my coffin will enter the flames - it's written into my will:

Peter Hammill has a total "Marmite" voice - you either love it or hate it - there are no half measures... :-)
