I know " Kellys Heroes " is a comedy ( based on an urban legend ) . Every time I watch it though , the character of Oddball ( Donald Sutherland ) grates . He is clearly a Hippie and as such is about 25 years too late for WW2! I know the film was made in the sixties but even so ...! Is this the worst anachronism in a film?

or possibly 25 years too early even!
I guess so, but he was such a funny character! :)  There may have been people like that, hippies had to originate from somewhere! :)
I can't believe that no one had the hippy mentality before the sixties......that seems unlikely in the extreme.  Anyway, you can't slag off Oddball, as he is one of my favourite film characters of all time.  As the man himself would say "Enough with the negative waves Moriarity!".
How can you knock Oddball?  He's a great character. Of course there were hippies before the 1960's.  I suggest you read a short web biograph of Eden Ahbez.  He was the composer of "Nature Boy" which was a big hit for Nat King Cole in the 1940's. Eden had hair down to his shoulders and wore loose fitting shirts and trousers.  He was a hippy if ever there was one.
