what do you think dear old richard would think of countdown now ? i think its turned into more like a fashion show than the great programme it was in the past.
I remember Richard Whiteley as he was the first person (I think) on Yorkshire TV when it was launched and he was rubbish. Only after watching Countdown after he had gone did I appreciate his talents.
Countdown was sort of home grown to us, it was shot in the TV studios not far from where I live. I took it for granted and I thought it was a bit corny. When Richard died and Carol got the boot, (or left), it wasn't the same, the 'magic' had gone out of it. The programme should have been finished with when Richard died. I haven't watched it since.
I agree it's not the same withou Richard, but I admit i sit there on my sofa and join in
with the letters game, useless at the maths without a calculator though.Do miss Richard's terrible puns.
Rachel is much better at solving the numbers than Carol was. Sometimes I'd solve the numbers when Carol couldn't - that never happens now. If Rachel can't do it, it can't be done is what I think. Anyway, I always record it and fast forward through the talking, I just like trying to beat the competitors so don't care who's presenting it.
