Not a patch on the original. I don't care about any of the characters. Barely any story. And incredibly boring. They should have left it well alone. Downton Abbey is in as totally different league to this junk. What did you think.

Just arguing with the family now - I think it's awful and they either don't or are just trying to wind me up!
it's only 3 episodes over 3 nights anmd so it's not going to develop into anything interestingly habitual
it is BAD bigtime.
Question Author
Gordon Jackson must be spinning in his grave.
Considering they have a lot of characters, period and plot to introduce very quickly, it's not too bad.
dont think Gordon will be turning in his grave as he was burnt for his final dispatch.,
if its so bad why are you watching it? Im not
well there is nothing else on - bring on the streaming for the cricket in an hour or so.
yep looking forward to that myself hope its another good day for the poms
I am hoping that KP really lets blast.......along with AS and AC each making their ton and throw in 50 plus for JT.....
If the dog hadn't chewed the remote I would have turned over. It started so slowly I though it must liven up but sadly not. Jean Marsh must get some sort of award for range of facial expressions though - hardly needed to speak.
lol lankeela, spot on there.
Right bring on the cricket then!!
Yes, no real charisma between the two leads. . Eileen Atkins did well with her aristo dowager part but sadly not in the Maggie Smith league - but no-one is! I will watch again since there is never anything else worth watching, but it wont set the heather on fire.
When a series is succesful and the characters and story lines are engrained into your mind - a remake is never going to be a patch on the original .

Look what happened to the remake of ' MInder '

Can you imagine a remake of the following with different actors ?

Only Fools and Horses
Fawlty Towers
Blackadder
Dallas
Porridge

Just to name a few
Have to agree, Bertie. You have to take such things as separate entity, I think, and try to be objective.

This wasn't a remake, but a sequel and, moreover, a sequel written and produced by the original writers/producers. I liked it. Quality cast and well-written, and I really hope the BBC commission a full series.
It has the same writers, Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins, so it should be as good as the original.
Jean was very keen to do it, and is very proud of it.
Given Ms Marsh's scathing comments about the timing of Downton, I don't think she was best pleased with ITV.
I would've agreed with the general sentiment after seeing the first episode, but I've given it another go, and the second episode is quite magnificent (especially the political content - Oswald Moseley).

Think the BBC should go for a whole 12 week series.
You should have all watched Wallender instead, - terrific; Swedish with subtitles, but no worse for that.
Perhaps I should whisper this, but I'm really enjoying it.
