says here (I googled) that he was a wounded Confederate soldier http://wiki.answers.c...ster_on_Gunsmoke_limp

I thought it was because his feet were different sizes and one of his boots was too tight.
According to Dennis Weaver, the late actor who played the role of Chester Goode, the producers of the show wanted him to develop a disability to explain why Chester never carried a gun and had a nonviolent attitude. Weaver showed up to the first day of shooting and demonstrated the now famous limp, without any explanation as to why or how Chester got it. The producers loved it and from the beginning of the series, Chester limped, though on occasion Weaver would forget and limp with the wrong leg

yes craft that's the same info I've posted in my link, which I am considering as a more plausible answer, Steve McQueen started it all by always movin when he was in shot to get noticed,

Yes I think I shall go for the boxset cos there were some amazing guest stars, I was born a month after it started and I was 20 when it finished and so It was always on the tele, I'm collecting the Bonanza discs at the moment and they are excellent to watch back after all this time, it's going to cost a hell of a lot though as it is £6.99 a fortnight and there are 3 episodes per disc, so 143 episodes divided by 3 is errrr about 45 discs so that's over £300 !
dot do you remember this tv series
