The ones portrayed on the documentaries are definitely not your authentic Romany gypsies no matter what they say. They're all more like yer "Noo Age Travellers" who "earn" their livings by nefarious means. They descend on some unsuspecting location, offer enough dosh to be able to but it, then go straight ahead developing it into some kind of housing estate, but with large state of the art mobile homes instead of houses.
A lot of the problem is that, by law, councils are charged with providing so called suitable sites for these people, most authorities only pay lip service to that because deep down nobody wants them in the first place, so they end up taking the law into their own hands and ripping the bum out of it.
And that's when the problems start, the local crime rate goes through the roof, nearby residents are harassed and put in fear by the largely aggressive attitudes of the gippos, and all hell breaks loose. Then, to comply with the law, local authorities have to try to find a way of getting rid of them, usually by serving them with suitable injunctions etc, that eventually does the trick - but it doesn't. All it does is to move them on to .... ??? Maybe coming to a field near you? Or me? Sh*t !!!
