Arghhhhhhhhhh don`t you just hate it when a post comes up and you can remember the programme but cant remember what it was called:) hope somebody replies sharpish because its annoying me now tryin to think of the name of it lol
Hi Mark.
Was it a play or a film.
Only thing I can think of was the film "Gregory's Girl.
Question Author
it was made for tv - so i guess its a play rather than a movie - not Gregory's girl - much later - about 1992 or 3 maybe?
was it called Playing the Field?
The Manageress with Cherly Lungi (excuse spelling)
Question Author
Definately not The Manageress which was a series that ran a bit later than the one off show I'm looking for.

Playing the Field doesn't ring a bell but could be right - do you remember any other details about it??
First aired in 1998, Playing the Field is a drama series set in Yorkshire. The idea behind the series is to look inside the lives of the members of this amateur women's football team, the only place they get to escape their ordinary and mundane lives.

The on-the-field trials and tribulations and the off-the-field lives, loves and infidelities of 'The Castlefield Blues' are portrayed in this fabulous, and often moving, drama series.

The Castlefield Blues are no ordinary football team. They are eleven strong women who know what they want and won't let anything stand in their way of achieving their ultimate goal which is to win the Womens FA Cup.

The Castlefield Blues are an under funded and extremely badly managed women's football team set in Castlefield, South Yorkshire.

The team members' loyalty to their team, the game and their team mates far outweighs the impossibility of them ever winning an actual match but they love what they do anyway.

Cast members included Ricky Tomlinson and Elizabeth Spriggs.

I think I maybe going on about a total different program to the one your thinking of, lol :-)

Sorry that's not it!

i found the same refs last nite. The one i'm looking for was a single episode, london-based and focussed on a single female star playing in the top male, professional league.
