Watching the first of this series with Alistair McGowan. I don't think I will be watching any more. Seems utter tosh to me.

British TV was always regarded as the best in the world but it's just degenerated into utter trash now. It's dumbed down, politically correct, socially engineered, offensive and quite obviously aimed at those with limited intellects and attention spans of just a few seconds.
We do have a TV but I only watch a large selection of DVDs I've amassed. Lots of natural history and classic films (and not one with a four-letter word in as they go straight in the bin! Ever hear the greats such as John Wayne use the F-word?)
I'm sure You Cannot Be Serious is as PC, socially engineered and dumbed down as the rest of the prole-feed churned out today.

Frankly I reckon a touch of the rose-coloured spectacles is required to think that tv was significantly better in the past. Sure, everyone can name a handful of programmes but that is all it is, a handful of programmes, just as now. The rest of the schedules was at the same level as it is today (and if you watch some of those "special" programmes now they are more likely to produce a meh response at best). And I certainly wouldn't trust the judgement of anyone who rates John Wayne amongst the greats.
