Someone writes to Zena Alli, Sunday Mirror homes, with the following problem. The blackout blind in their bedroom makes it too dark to get dressed.
Zena advises them to get curtains to cover the blackout blind and then they'll have the options they desire.
Was my thought of just switching the light on too simple?

How many Sunday Mirror journalists does it take to ........ etc etc
or possibly raising the blind... but perhaps the room looks onto the M1 so people would be crashing all the time.
I'm lost for words. Does somebody actually get paid for writing that stuff?
surely curtains over the blackouts will make it even darker?
Yes, switching the light on would be a good idea, or, get up later when it's light.

Raising the blind wasn't an option as the modesty of the correspondent was an issue.
Not only silly question, but silly answer! How are you coping with the turmoil in Belfast, Sandy?
Question Author
Sibton, it's all happening in poor inner-city areas. Apart from the drone of the police helicopter in the distance you'd hardly know anything was amiss.
So obvious that they probably never even thought of it. X
Hope it stays away from you sandy.
Could be because someone else is in the room. My OH turns on the torch on his phone to get dressed in the mornings so he doesn't wake me.

That's very considerate, Ummm.
But this correspondent doesn't want to open the curtains because they don't want passers by gawping.
I have blackout linings up at my window (It faces East) and curtains - I just turn on the light.
Some kind person should inform the correspondent that the war is now over, and that blackout precautions are no longer necessary.
Blackout curtains are essential in our house - hate being woken up by daylight in the summer months.
