I followed the case on the news in the 1960's and for this reason I was not entirely happy about the portrayal of Sandra. The actress who played her on this show spoke in a very odd cockney type accent whereas Sandra was a well spoken and educated young woman and nothing like the Eliza Doolittle portayal of her on the screen. Also Veronica was petite,underweight, pale looking and fragile in appearance. She was nowhere near as old as the actress they chose to portray her on screen. And finally, whatever his evil deeds, Lord Lucan was aristocratic to the core in appearance,had imperious bearing, was very striking, and had real presence. He was popular amongst his peers because apart from his gambling habit, and self indulgent lifestyle, he was very good company and all his friends genuinely liked him. Sorry if this is nit picking but these are the facts.

Stargazer, not having your info., I can't comment on the portrayal on the people but I do agree that the nanny in the program came over a bit coarse. I feel sorry for her relatives though, they must be annoyed about that. Still, I'm eager to see how they wrap it up.

Stargazer...your post is interesting. I can understand if characters are changed to make a programme more interesting...just...but the characters you describe would, for me, have made a more compelling story.
So, why the change do you think? Not just Sandra but Lucan himself who seemed quite pathetic all round in last weeks showing.

Gness. If you are able to look at some of the real news film and subsequent documentary programmes showing these people in real life albeit in black and white you will agree with me. Lucan was larger than life but not loud and showy. He simply had the bone structure, bearing and captivating allure of aristocratic breeding. Not that I believe it is right to label people who happen to have been born with a silver spoon in their mouths purely down to some a**e licking in past centuries to the monarchy as a rule. A damn insult to Sandra's family. How dare they label her with a phoney East London accent. Very poor choice. Veronica alwaysl ooked as is she was anorexic and was only in her late twenties or early thirties if I recall. Lucan was a descendant of the Lord Lucan whose incompetance led to all those young cavalry riding into the jaws of death in the Charge of the Light Brigade but I expect everybody knows that.

Stargazer...thank you. I knew nothing about Sandra but what you say is indeed an insult to her family and a strange thing to have done.
The reason is certainly food for thought.
Will be interesting then to see how it concludes.
