Due to technical problems I won't bore you with, we are forced at the moment to watch live TV, which means even going so far as attempting to watch things like 'Midsomer Murders' (the earlier and later ones) and 'Endeavour' on ITV3 which now have a constant infuriating voice saying things like "He opens the door" as you watch someone open a door, "He finishes his drink" as he finishes his drink. Some of these programmes I have seen in the past, and I'm sure this maddening voice describing what I am watching wasn't there before, what is this about please and does anyone think it is an improvement?

Could it be your TV that is adding this in?
You have got audio description turned on in your tv settings. It is to aid blind people and can be turned off
On sky when you turn the subtitles on there is also the option of 'Audio Description' which sounds like what you have working.

Thanks, that sounds an interesting possibility, I shall investigate tomorrow.

^ We are watching on a 'Panasonic TX-L32EW5' television with 'VIERA Connect', which does a bewildering array of things, so I'm sure you are right that it has this voice over function for the blind - if I can find it.
When I think about it now, I guess this facility will only be there on certain programmes such as the classics; Midsomer etc.
Audio Description could be on many dramas, soaps etc and appears to have been activated accidentally in your case...or your TV has a will of it's own!
Press "Menu" and scroll to "Sound"...then "Audio Description Menu" where you can turn the feature Off and On, adjust it's volume etc.
I don't think you will find 'Audio Description' under 'Sound' in the Menu on your Remote Controller.

To activate or dis-engage it on my Panasonic (TX 37 B) means pressing the 'Option' button on the Controller and it is to be found at the bottom of the drop down list of items. It's probable set on Auto and needs to be given a sideways click to turn it to 'Off'.

If you have a BT handset it is the AD button, bottom left marked AD with an upwards pointing arrow

Thanks to all for help. Having established the cause of the problem I tried various ways to find 'Audio Description' but to no avail, however I found a 'set to defaults' option which I entered and it may have worked (it seems impossible to be sure without a suitable programme), however I checked an old 'Frost' screened last night on ITV3 and there was no voice over.

HansUrbancka: I tried the options button and the drop-down doesn't have 'Audio description' but it has 'Dual audio' against which it now says 'No duel audio' do you think that is it?
My set was bought in Germany so there might be slight differences.

Have you looked for a subtitles button on the remote control? Chances are there will be an audio description option that will come up when you press it.
No, dual audio allows headphones to be connected without muting the tv speakers. I make sure all my tvs have that feature.

Have you scrolled down the entire sound menu? There may be more than one 'page'.
Had a quick Google and on another Panasonic the audio description was on page 2 of the sound options.
I have switched my Panasonic on to check.

Click menu on your remote, then sound. Then press the big down arrow to get to page 2 where you will find the audio description settings.

Alternatively press 'option' on your remote, it is on the top row directly under the 'tv' button. You will see the audio description menu and you can easily switch it on or off from there.
I think THECORBYLOON has cracked it and hc4361 has confirmed the position. It also works for me from page 2 of 'Sound'

Hang on everyone! I think my problems run deeper. My English version user manual tells me exactly what you have said, but it says by 'Audio Description' 'UK only', which is why the words do not appear anywhere on my German bought TV menus, Scheisse!
So I'm watching English TV on a German set and reading an English manual, I've looked at the German manual and it doesn't feature. But why it is picking up the audio description I don't know, maybe I'm stuck with it?

How long have you had the tv and how long has the AD been a problem?
// I guess this facility will only be there on certain programmes such as the classics; Midsomer etc. // Midsomer !!! Classics, you have got to be kidding.

hc; Had the set about 3 years, problem only came to light the last few days, however these are programmes we don't normally watch, but until my DVD/VHS Panasonic recorder is repaired, we have only live TV to watch.
I wonder if you can change the region of the tv to the UK somehow.
