R I P Corrie's Derek Wilton

Peter Baldwin, who played Derek Wilton on Coronation Street, has passed away today. He was 82 years old.

Peter joined Coronation Street as salesman Derek in 1976. Derek was the on/off partner and later husband of Mavis Wilton from 1988 until his death in 1997.

After his character on Coronation Street was killed off in 1997, actor Peter Baldwin opened a toy shop in Covent Garden, London.

Frank Barlow's wife, Ida, (Noele Dyson) was knocked down by a bus. Ken's first wife, Valerie (Anne Reid) electrocuted herself whilst doing the ironing.

It was so far back even Wikipedia doesn't know! All they say is "Frank died at some point between 1971 and April 1975."

I think he tripped over the trailing cords of an iron and hairdryer which had just been safety checked by a Weatherfield electrician whilst alightin from the bus that killed his first wife.

Sad news he was a great Coronation Street character and his partnership with Thelma Barlow was memorable, Derek and Mavis, isn't it great how we remember the old characters compared to today some of the Corrie characters now are forgettable! R.I.P
