Really felt my age tonight while watching In It To Win It. Contestant had to really think about how many inches were in a foot. Probably taught only metric which I struggle to get my head around.

Nothing to do with your age; everything to do with the dim people who somehow get selected for national TV quizzes, especially In It To Win It, which is particularly embarrassing. Don't they bother with auditions any more?

I have not watched this for quite a while till tonight, and the bloke not knowing the 12'' Q was amazing, also couldn't believe the student didn't know what the Flying Scotsman was.

I thought DW is getting more camp with age, and the way he was flirting/talking to the student was cringe worthy.

Children are not taught imperial measurements now, and why should they be when we need them to do work in places that use metres, seconds etc?
My OH is a lot older than me me and is incredulous that I don't know off the top of my head how many feet in a mile, or something. It's no use any more; just leave it.

Don't think I will ever become metric,....did you know that net curtains on a market stall are in imperial lengths but metric width? Crazy :(

Bathsheba, it's like buying wood. You get metres of 2 inches by 4 inches, eg.

The tricky one trt is that a sheet of plasterboard is 2.4m x 4ft!!!

One didn't memorise how many feet in a mile; one works it out from knowing that there are 1760 yards in a mile, and 3 feet to the yard. Child's play.

I was amazed also when that bloke didn't know what the Flying Scotsman was. And imperial measurements for me every time !

As part of my job I once delivered a basic maths course. Was told by a couple of students that they didn't know anything about imperial measurements as they had only been taught metric at school. Then asked one how tall she was - 5' 3" was the response. Had no idea what it was in metric measurement.
