Intriguing episode last night. I am glad that they have got rid of the ruddy mumbling !

But all this cigarette smoking is starting to get me down, even though last night it was part of the story.

that's just historical accuracy, you can't have them vaping.

I know jno. I can remember the time when everybody smoked, all the time.
watch a film from the 50s, especially American ones, they smoke like chimneys. Sooo sophisticated, and now looks so weird.

Remember Gloria Swanson's peculiar cigarette holder in Sunset Boulevard?

they use gloves rather a lot

donald teare ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Teare)
used to tuck into his sarnies over lunch when he was (still) doing a post mortem !

the decisiion to go over to disposable was made in 1962
Historical accuracy was compromised by the fact that they have Goebbels visiting London and swastikas in Oxford Street :-)
So not even the Nazis banned smoking it seems (!)
um.... the Germans didnt win the Battle of Britain Itchie

there is cine film of the swastika beingflown over london

The German Ambassador died in London around 1935 and his funeral procession involved a lot of swastikas which were recorded on film ( carlton house terrace I seem to recall )
I can only see the one on the coffin

Ichy.....the book is a "what if" story after all.

While I find it fairly easy to believe that we would have succumbed to the Germans if they had invaded Britain in Operation Sea Lion, especially as America had not come into the War at that stage, and showed no great willingness to do so, what I find less convincing is that organisations like the Met Police would have cooperated quite so enthusiastically.

Robert Harris and C J Sansom have both written alternate history novels similar to Deighton, and SS-GB is a cracking yarn, so perhaps we shouldn't be too critical.

After all, its miles better than Howards Way !
I recall a load of raised arm salutes in that photo at Carlton house terrace.
I commented on last weeks episode that the Nasties were dancing to Black/American jazz music at Garid's party and I believed it was strictly verboten to play jazz.
Lo and behold the same subject arose last night when Archer was with the housekeeper.

Dinepal...it was explained away last night. by Archer saying that they secretly " loved it "

Does anyone know the location used for last nights funeral ?
Mikey,
Have you not seen the photograph of the Jersey bobby who was opening the car door to the Island Kommandant. The bobby was their chauffeur.
Pure propaganda for the folks back home in the Fatherland. Made them believe they had actually invaded GB.
And Yes.The C.I. police did work alongside the German FeldPolizei (military police).
Question Author
I visited Jersey about 30 years ago, and made the huge mistake of bringing up the subject of the Nazi occupation, in a busy St Helier Pub. It was if I had farted in chapel.

The German Underground Hospital had not long opened and there was a lot of opposition to that from the locals. One chap did tell me that people were starving on Jersey towards the end of the War and if they hadn't cooperated in some way of other, they would have been carted off to POW camps.

A very touchy subject in the CI it would seem.
If you look at the book covers on the right side you will notice how many feature a 'British Bobby' posed with his occupier for propaganda purposes. Count about 26d and you can see the infamous bobby chauffeur to the Island Kommandant.

Another stonking episode last night. The attention to detail that we see in this drama is really very good. No more mumbling I notice.

Woe betide anyone that rings me between 21:00 and 22:00 next Sunday !
