Was viewing old programs of this nutter the other night shouting with his big gob from the rooftops and no one taking a blind bit of notice. So so funny. :0)

I like some of the old comedies.  I think the advent of political correctness has robbed us of a lot of laughs.

Question Author

Don't think there are any good comedy writers left. Its all doom and gloom on TV.

Indeed. The point made by Johhny Speight (who penned "Till Death") was that Alf Garnett was a parody. He was a lone voice and his extreme attitudes were very much untypical of most of the population.

Alfs ears were as big as his gob. If he didnt think people were listening to him, he would just keep repeating himself day after day, hour after hour. :0)

A trip down memory lane - the top 50 British comedies:

I laugh just thinking of many on that list.

I've caught a few episodes sone time ago, but after a bit felt it was a bit dated, didn't have the same affect as originally. Probably worth catching though, even if I don't presently do so.

...some...

There was also Love Thy Neighbour, no way would they be able to show that these days.  Saw some mothers do ave them on here and thought has anyone seen Michele Dotrice in unforgotten that is on tonight, boy has she changed or the makeup department are very good.

One of the best comedies of it's time.

I remember as a young teenager at school, a pupil asked our Geography teacher if she watched said programme. She said no. She found it uncouth!  😄

That's the reason I never watched more than a few minutes of The Royle Family, patsy - and Mrs Brown's Boys.

So many great new comedies to watch. I highly recommend Motherland, Amandaland, Mandy and Stath Sells Flats.

Old shows are great but really...stuff from half a century ago????

Love Thy Neighbour was on one of the digital or streaming channels quite recently. Two middle aged men making idiots of themselves whilst their wives looked on with contempt. I enjoyed it back in the day but it seems very monotonous now.

As with Alf Garnet, the writers' intention was to show racists and bigots to be idiots

Question Author

Alf was at it again last night  jesus he must have come out with about six different complaints in about 10mins, his gob never stopped. :0)

Which channel are you watching it on, nicebloke?

I watched this a few years ago, very funny British show. I quite enjoy British comedy shows like this though I must admit I do struggle with the language quite a bit.

I'd like to watch it - what channel, nicebloke?

Kardashev - I would have thought All in the family/Archie Bunker  would have been easier for you to understand....

have I said something wrong?

Question Author

Cant remember what it was on, was flicking channels, but its normally very late at night when I've seen it.
