Bagpipes on Big Brother

Each time Marcus Bentley timechecks a recored BB segment, just before he says the time, a short 'bagpipe' note sounds. i imagine this is some sort of electrocnic tag to start the tape, but why that noise?

Any techies here know the thinking behind it?

What are your thoughts on BB contestants so far.
