why do they continue doing the task when they know they have failed it?

i suppose it gives them a sense of purpose. Its something to focus on until the eviction.

In the case of the 'singing' task, I don't think they were aware they had failed!

I also wonder if they are obliged to stay with it until the end because otherwise they would be moving from one task to another all the time, which is confusing for them, and the viewers.
