I'm doing Media Studies research on to what extent does children's television educate children. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

Well of course children's TV does educate children, but not all of it and not always in a good way. Some programmes will educate children, such as Blue Peter (like mediahelp said!). And then there are the more specific programmes which will teach children specific topics, such as Smart and Art Attack will teach them about art. And that stupid Big Cook Little Cook progamme will teach them about cooking. Lots of programmes teach kids general morals and things, like about friendship, and how you should not bully people or steal.......
But then there are the progammes that won't educate them or the ones that will teach them bad things. Like Pokemon... not really that educational is it? And violent programmes (you know the weird Japanese cartoons) will just make them want to fight and stuff.

my little bot has just turned 2 years old and he already can count to ten. both with the help of mummy and the programmes on tv. Espeacially barney the dinosaur, he cleans up and counts and dances with barney. Alot of programmes are good for kids to learn but id never let my child watch the teletubbies because of personal family experience, they seem to have stopped the children from speaking properly. Hope this helps.
