So, who watched Hogfather last night? What do you think? I was pleasantly surprised, it would have been awful if they had ruined it, but so far its looking good! Sticking close to the book. I've been reading Discworld for about 20 years, so am very happy that its on
Hi mycats. I havn't read any of Terry Pratchett's books but a good friend of mine has. He was dubious about the TV version of Hogfather.
I watched last night and thought it was brilliant. I can't wait for tonights. Is it me though or is David Jason being all the other charaters he has ever played before and also Ronnie Barkers character from Open All Hours - wonder if he's done it for a laugh.
I love the Death character too very funny. I may go and get some of his books now - what would be the best one to start on for a new reader?
I am a big TP fan, and have been for agesnages, so I was looking forward to this when i heard about it.
Overall, I have been pleased with the adaptation, with only a couple of minor quibbles..... Teatimes accent grates a little, the wizards aren't fat enough, and not enough Death of Rats :)
Not sure how well someone who wasn't familiar with Discworld would follow the plot though.....
Athley, I would recommend starting at the beginning of the series, if you want to get into them.
First was "The colour of magic", second was "the light fantastic".
You don't really need to read them in any particular order, but their are certain sequences (The witches, The wizards, The guards etc), and it probably adds to the enjoyment if you can read those in order.
I have to agree about Teatime's voice, annoying!
You should read them Athley, they are great. I have read them all dozens of times and love them. The later ones are (in my opinion) a bit deeper and moving but still very funny.
