I have to admit that I do not watch soaps. But in the TV magazine last week was a picture of a boy running away from home with his great dane.

Do you think that there would be any chance of the police finding him in a crowd, just a little boy and a dog the size of a pony?

I must admit that had there not been a dog in the picture I would not have even noticed it. Beautiful dog!

I sometimes wonder about whether the police can spot anything.A few years ago I was in a shop, waiting at the till behind a woman who had a full basket and a little girl of about 5.A few minutes later the woman noticed that the little girl was outside the shop, moving away quickly, and ran out to get her. While all this was happening three policemen were standing at the door of the shop talking to the manager. The little girl would have had to squeeze past them to get out of the door, and not one of them noticed.
I challenged them about it and they weren't bothered,in fact one of them was quite abusive to me.

I live in a relatively small city in Scotland. One day a policeman stopped me and asked me for directions to a street in the middle of town. Makes you wonder.
When we lived in Manchester there was a van parked (illegally) in the exact same spot as the one when the Manchester bomb exploded. There was 2 police officers stood on the corner talking. We couldn't believe it. We went up to them and said "I wonder if you could settle an argument. Where did the Manchester bomb explode?" Both pointed towards the van and said "Just there". We said "Where that van is?" The look of horror when they actually realised - eventually.
The reason police did not find "spot him" was because he`d NOT been reported missing.
When I was young I saw a policeman rip the right hand mirror of a parked car in a car park saying to his colleague that he was replacing the one his wife had broken on her car!! I was really too stunned and appalled to say anything ( wish I had though ) but have wondered ever since just who the police employ.

I used to say that they would take anyone if they were tall enough.... but some of the officers nowadays are a bit on the short side.

I always wanted to join the police - from when I was about 8 until I was about 19. It seemed a good job with a good pension.

It must be a hard job to do - but YES - one does wonder where they get their people from.

I think that some of the canine officers look pretty intelligent though.
