Well, theyre not exactly a con, you still stand a chance of being entered in them, but it's very VERY slim, if you think about the amount of viewers, then the amount of viewers who'd fancy a 'holiday in jamaica' or 'a romantic cruise in switzerland or somewhere'
Question Author
having read about the richard and judy programme i think you'll find that that one is
Which one? I don't think anybody on television could pull off a scam competition, they have their pants sued off em, and they'd be in big trouble with the law
It's the 'You say, We Pay' quiz .
It's not the competition that's a con it's the fact that viewers are prompted to keep calling in at 1 a time after a contestant has already been chosen.

does that answer your question dr.mario? it also brings to mind phone ins such as deal or no deal where even if your name isnt put into the "hat" you will still be charged
I have tried the DOND phone number and have never even been connected..just a voice saying

''phone lines are busy ~ you have not been charged for this call''

I will await my phone bill with interest :o)
most phone in comps and some game shows mainly the price is right depends on where your from??....have you noticed on the price is right which is filmed in london most contestants are from up north ....the longer it takes 2 get 2 the studio u will be pickedand again in phone in comps.....watch and you will see thats y they ask 4 the area your from and your phone number so u cant say your miles away if your in london so its a CON
well you appear to only know because you have read todays news, as we all have, so you needn't sound so smug.

story teller - whats the logic of that then?
if you are chosen to appear most studios pay for your fare and accommodation - so why make it more expensive for themselves?
i was just thinking that Joko - I'm confused
they dont pay for your travel!!!!!! all "tickets" for game shows are free you just have to ring up and they send them the same as watching any programe being filmed
story teller - the actual contestants are paid for!
I know the audience aren't paid for!

you cite 'the price is right' - but how many other game shows randonly pull people from the audience?
very few! most are chosen in advance and brought to the studio, so your point is only relevant in a few instances.

the tickets to watch the show being recorded are free and sent out to whoever asks

joko whats being smug got to do with it? dont be so pathetic
thinking you may be the only one who knows, and claiming this just after an expose, as though you knew all a long and can't believe no-one else did, sounds mighty smug to me!

or are you suggesting you knew all along and that you thought it was common knowledge??

many tv quizzes etc are a con but R&J were believed to be above board and not under suspicion - and you know it - that is why it is news.
Question Author
just cos something comes out in the news doesnt mean to say we havent got a suspicion about it or do you really live in a dream world and only believe anything when its made public?
Question Author
smugness has got nothing to do with it, i expect you believe in the tooth fairy as well
..er...yeah, i believe in the tooth fairy....! err...sorry what?

What a lame, grasping statement!

Of course people are suspicious of things!
what a silly petulant comment!

My point is, your smug, sneering "question" was just an excuse for you to try to feel superior for a moment, about something that you yourself only knew about yourself for about a day.

We all know lots of these phone ins are a scam, but most people thought R&J one was ok, simply because its richard and judy! - and by ok i mean not an outright con - meaning most people believed they had a fair share of being chosen, not that they were calling after the winner had been chosen.
They may have been wasting their time and unlikely to be chosen, but high odds is not a scam, just the nature of the game.
Most people will not have noticed that when they encourage them to enter the competition about 3 minutes before the game starts, that the winner has already been chosen - it won't have occurred to them, because most people don't know how TV works and won't realise it can take a good few minutes to brief the contestant, and when exactly the cut off point is.

If you claim you have "known" that for ages then thats nonsense - you may have been suspicious but that doesn't mean you "know".

Like I said, many of the larger well known shows are above board.

I work in TV so I do have some inside knowledge on this
Question Author
what a coincidence so do ! it wasnt a lame grasping statement at all, and how do you know what i know, can you read my mind??? to say that people dont know whats going on is a sweeping statement now whos talking rubbish, lets just agree to disagree
gina - you and i both know what you meant by your post - it is there for all to see above.

backtrack all you like.

you are indirectly saying that anyone who didn't know must be stupid. Maybe they are, but as not all are cons, some people can be forgiven for trusting one such as richard and judy's.

and the reason I know millions of people don't suspect a thing - is because millions of people phone them every day believing they may get through!
it's not rocket science to think that they wouldn't do that if they thought it was a con!

and if you really did work in tv you would know that they would not make these shows, costing millions, if "we all knew they were a con", and therefore would not phone them!
if you think that, it is you that is talking rubbish.

if i was to charge you 50 for a sandwich - and you paid it - that is not a con, because the deal is out in the open, i have not lied or mislead you...it would your own fault that you were stupid enough to pay it...no-one is forcing you.
same with these shows, 'most' of them display the rules perfectly well and however expensive it is and unlikely a win is, that is for the viewer to decide.

but yes lets agree to disagree.

peace
