It was a sign of the times, and the very little travel and interaction enjoyed by British people in the sixties that a Birmingham accent would be such a novelty to people elsewhere in the country, who would not have heard it before.

Similarly, The Beatles brought standard Liverpudlian slang to a worldwide audience in a way that is incomprehensible to teenagers today who see and hear other accents, national and international, on a daliy basis.

Yes, right person, wrong show. Note that it was "Thank Your Lucky Stars" (basically, an ITV rip-off of "Juke Box Jury"), and not "Juke Box Jury" itself.
