Did anyone watch the programme about Scott Walker on BBC 1 Tuesday evening and what did you make of it?
I used to love him when he was in the Walker Brothers but I really don't understand what he's about now and yet everyone was raving about him saying he is probably one of our best songwriters and poet.
Would love to hear your views.

I agree his more modern stuff was a bit unusual. People in the industry like Brian Eno were raving about how avant-garde his later albums were, but there is often a difference between what's innovative and daring and what people want to hear. The classic example of this Hendrix, who everyone agrees was able to get things out of a guitar that no-one else could, but to me it was often just a noise. As for Scott Walker, I think it's a pity that that such a great voice was not heard more over the past 30 years.
there can only be one explanation for his 'avant garde' stuff is that he became and remains as mad as a box of frogs

NB for avant garde read rubbish

Thanks for your replies.I realise the programme was mainly about his music but I was hoping there would be more information about the man himself and perhaps that might make it a little easier to understand where he's coming from and also where he's been!
Johnmof I agree about Hendrix - never been a fan myself but understand he had many people who would rave about him.
I.Don No He did come over like he was as mad as a box of frogs and wondered if he'd had a breakdown or a drug habit but the programme didn't reveal anything.
Ah well - some of us age well - some not so much !
