80's childrens tv drama

Does anyone remember a childrens tv drama that i think went out on a sunday. It involved a young man searching for his parents ,which he was told to have been killed in a car crash, but he believed they were still alive. Each week he would go from place to place trying to find clues to lead him to the truth.
The man was about late 20's with blonde hair but thing i remember about this program the most was the eery theme tune, which was played on the flute(sent shivers up my spine). So if anyone remembers what it was called it would be great ...many thanks Grangie

The programme was made by Tyne Tees I think - it was called Barriers - you should be able to find more about it on imdb.com. The lead character was called Billy.
