Car racing tv Series

Back in the '80s I used to watch on greek television a tv series about car racing or a car manufacturer.I think it was british. I can't remember much since I was a child then but it involved car racing (perhaps formula 1 from the 1950's or before the WW II). I remember that the main character wore glasses like the ones race drivers used to wear some decades ago. He was propably blond and looked like Michael York or something... Can anyone help me find out sth about this? Please help!!!
