Anyone else disappointed with Oliver Twist?
Maybe Cranford has spoiled us. I was really looking forward to Oliver Twist, but to me it is a sad disappointment. I gave up before the first episode had finished. Can't see what this new version brings?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think they have commissioned a script that is very very true to the original text, there are long complex scenes that create the elements that move the story along, it is almost soap like, some of the lesser knwon characters from the original serioalisation in the newspaper satories have been well researched and developed, whereas we are used to suspending our disbelief after decades of soap drama, this was a fantastical fairy story set in the Victorian reality, which relies as heavily on coincidence as Jane Eyre did. it is alot darker and deeper, almost gothic, which Dickens reserved for his Bleak House and OCS but i think that is a trend just now,.
