Dr Who
Well, just for a change it was set on earth in episode 1 and guess where they are next week? Earth- who would have guessed? The writers' imaginations for where they travel just astounds me!

As for now, whoever thought Catherine Tate was a good companion needs their head examined. Aside from the story being pants and ridiculous (like how they kept missing each other, let alone investigating the same thing) every now and then I thought I was watching Gran or Lauren or one of the others.

i have given up on dr who. when they added tates character as his new sidekick that made my mind up for me - didnt like her in her xmas special.
i feel that they have made a major mistake by appointing her. have they not realised that maybe the majority of the shows audience is comprised of younger boys who would have liked billie and freema but i cant see catherine getting the same response!
i also get annoyed at the lack of imagination with the locations. let alone earth most happen in london!

I think you'll find that there's also a lot of young girls who fancy DT as well. They might be pleased that there's no on-screen competition! Plus there's a lot of adult males who watch (though I'm not sure how fanciable Catherine Tate is, I haven't seen enough pictures of her acting "normally" to tell).
For me, the jury is still out on Ms Tate. She was quite annoying in the special, but her shoutiness seems to have been dialled back a bit.

Still got 8.4 million viewers which wiped the floor with all the other offerings on tv at that time.

l agree with most of these comments, i like the earth stories as they are more believable but i also enjoy them when they are on the other side of time itself.
rose was brilliant, free ma was good but was a hard act to follow IMO as a side kick, plus they spoilt it with the "her fancying him " bit................. i dreaded the thought of Catherine Tate doing it, however on Saturday i thought she was very good, i refused to watch the Christmas special because of her, but was pleasantly surprised by her acting................... even though i thought her "GRAN" character had joined at the end.
