Whilst I don't like it or want to watch it I can see that others might enjoy it. We all have different tastes. It's basically just a light hearted, harmless musical show - better that than loads of other things I can mention.

There are lots of other channels to watch, or the radio, or a book, or a computer game, a walk, go to the pub.....

I don't like Big Brother, any motoring programme, any sports programme, any gardening programme....in fact I watch very little television.

I watch what I enjoy and let others enjoy their programmes.

We need a debate

The point is that TV is being dummed down. Anyone (actor etc) can go an ego trip, and on that show they do, but we need to get back to good dramas and sitcoms etc which are made - and don't just happen!

Let's here it for Quality Programming to suite all tastes

I am watching a good drama, a three parter - A Place of Execution, and the comedy drama Mutual Friends is also very good.

I'm love crime dramas so enjoy Silent Witness and would like more Rebus and Messiah. They are quality dramas.

I agree there is a great shortage of sitcoms having been a big fan of the genre for years (remember Dream Stuffing by any chance?) but the last truly good sitcom I saw was Early Doors - come on Craig Cash, pull your finger out and get writing.

Unfortunately if we banned every rubbish programme, there would have to be an awful lot of repeats to fill the time!

I don't like any of the reality shows, but at least "Come Dancing" isn't (from the snippets I have seen) as offensive as "Big Brother".

I tend to watch SF and drama shows, have the full Virgin package, and get sent a lot by a US-based friend. I find that I have more to watch than I have time for, and that's after applying some degree of filtering! I can see that it must be frustrating for those limited to the main 5 channels, though.

I do agree that TV is being "dumbed down", but I guess that dross is what the public want. (I work in a school, and the teachers are much more likely to be discussing "Big Brother" in the staffroom than - say - one of the BBC's "Classic" adaptations!)

Ethel, I loved Early Doors. Why have so few people seen it, and why hasn,t it been repeated.
We have both series on DVD and watch it often.

I quite enjoy Strictly Come dancing. Whilst I accept that they are largely C list celebreties, at least they are being judged on a skill rather than a big gob and outrageous behaviour.

I would agree that by and large TV has become dumbed down. Tv companies don't seem to want to invest in drama, or to take a chance on young writers. Often Radio4 is more diverse and ready to try out different writers.

Saturday night's television is rubbish.

I don't know why they repeat the old Saturday and Sunday night shows on one of the other channels, I think it would prove popular.

Sunday Night at the London Palladium, would be good for starters. Another chance to see those "real entertainers" who unfortunately are no longer with us.

I agree that it would be great to have variety shows, but not the old ones! The two series of Britain's got talent proved that there are some very good acts about and that we don't need high ranking celebrities to entertain us.

I would love to see shows like this on a regular basis, not as competitions, but just as entertainment.

This is good stuff. Just the sort of comments I had hoped for. I am not a fan, as you guessed from my opening statement, but it's the way they have tied up both weekend nights that really iritates me. They could get it all in on Saturday (like they used to in the first series) if there was a bit better, and sensible, production.
I seem to be amongst friends, in the main. Shame we can't do anything about it.

I love Strictly Come Dancing. On Saturday nights I watch it on tv with my laptop in front of me, connected to at least 10 friends all over the country through Skype instant messaging.

We have a great time watching it together.

I agree with you nottsjohn about it taking over 2 nights,one night is more than enough.

All Saturday viewing is absolute rubbish, and we dont have it on. We listen to Southern Counties Radio instead. Saturday evening prime time is great with Dave Cash playing golden oldies for 2 hours followed by an hour of rock and roll.
