I have just watched the last of the Swedish version of the Wallander series on BBC4. I believe that the series filmed with Kenneth Branagh is about to be repeated soon. I thought the Swedish version was very well done. Has anyone seen any of the Branagh ones and what do you think of them?

no and i haven't seen the uk version,not interested wallander in my eyes is the very excellent Swedish version . big fan of this, and made copies for myself of all the episodes if its not Swedish to me its not real also i hear there is another series being filmed with different characters to Stefan and Linda i feel this won't have the same impact to me as iv'e grown with that combination
and very sad Linda in real life committed suicide 2 years ago following depression and leaves a husband and young daughter

I agree about the quality of the Swedish version. It is very understated with none of the ranting and shouting that usually occurs in UK police series (Taggart, Rebus, The Bill etc) but still manages to convey the misery, bleakness and pain of crime on the victims and the police.
I am working my way through Mankell's books. I am just over half way through No3 The White Lioness. They are very well written.

I saw the UK versions and they were really good and I'm not normally a Branagh fan. I'm surprised there were not more episodes, think there were only about 3 or 4. How many books did they actually write?

According to the blurb in my book there were about 10 Wallander books

having seen both of them, i would rate the swedish version much more highly than the english version, even with the added pressure of missing stuff cause you are reading the subtitles. It is MUCH better and far superior in my opinion

I have seen the last lot with KB on BBC and there's a second series soon
Faceless Killers (airs 3 January 2010).
The Man Who Smiled (airs 10 January 2010).
The Fifth Woman (airs 17 January 2010).
I don't know if they are going to repeat the first series .
Read all the books .Brilliant .
I have seen various others dubbed in German and original Swedish with subtitles with Rolf Lassgard as Wallander and a couple with Krister Henriksson .All good .
I think Brannagh puts him over over well though .It's well filmed .He's quite good as a Norse Morse :)
