What utter rubbish. I quite enjoyed the previous series - but this xmas special was dire. I could only bear to watch the first 20 minutes or so then had to switch off - it was so embarassingly bad!

I watched it as a one-off - I thought the original series was dire, but this one was quite diverting. I guess they had to create the whole story-line around the fact that that bloke playing Mel has died and was therefore missing in person - quite difficult to do, perhaps.

But he only died 3 days before the screening, it must have been filmed months before it went on air.

Very strange.

Oh how I agree with you quiz, I was looking forward to it but couldn't watch it as we had company so I recorded it.
I settled down to watch it yesterday afternoon, I didn't even get to the 20 min mark I deleted it at 15mins. -- Utter Tripe.

where did you get that from keithg? Geoffrey Hutchings (Mel) died last July.

keithg .... Geoffrey Hutchings, the actor who played central character Mel, sadly passed away six weeks before the Christmas special started filming, the show was re-written bearing in mind the wishes of his widow Andi.
It was a terrible effort !

It makes sense now, what I saw was an orbituary to him on a BBC news website last week what they must have be doing was running orbituaries from the year and not knowing he had died I assumed it was current.

keithg is most likely thinking of the BBC2 comedy show "Grandma's House", Geoffrey Hutchings recorded that before he died. on broadcast, the first episode was dedicated to him...
